About the position

The Database Administrator is responsible for administering, testing, and implementing computer databases while applying knowledge of database management systems. This role involves coordinating changes to databases, resolving performance issues, and implementing security measures to safeguard data. The position requires collaboration with the Information Security Administrator and includes responsibilities such as modifying databases, planning upgrades, and providing technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, test, and implement computer databases.
  • Coordinate changes to computer databases.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve database performance issues.
  • Work with the Information Security Administrator to implement security measures.
  • Modify existing databases and database management systems.
  • Plan and install upgrades of database management system software.
  • Specify users and user access levels for each segment of the database.
  • Test changes to database applications or systems.
  • Correct errors and make necessary modifications to programs or databases.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, maintain, and test disaster recovery capabilities and backups.
  • Provide technical support to junior staff or clients.
  • Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for software use and acquisition.
  • Write and code logical and physical database descriptions.
  • Develop data models describing data elements and their usage.
  • Select and enter codes to monitor database performance.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend hardware or software technologies.
  • Review procedures in database management system manuals.
  • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems.
  • Review workflow charts developed by programmer analysts.

Requirements

  • Relevant bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Certifications validating expertise in database technologies or platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with database administration.
