About the position

The Database Administrator role at V-Soft Consulting involves managing and optimizing database systems, particularly Oracle and AWS DB services. The position requires expertise in database design, implementation, backup, recovery, and performance tuning, with a focus on ensuring high availability and minimal downtime in production environments. The role also includes responsibilities for data analysis, automation, and compliance reporting, making it essential for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of database operations.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews Information Protection compliance reports and notifications for individual databases and internal processes.
  • Performs data purging and data replication activities.
  • Performs database recovery from logs, hot and cold backups, Export/Imports and Disaster Recovery.
  • Performs database creation, decommissioning, and database updates/migrations to a higher/lower version or cross-platform migrations.
  • Involved in database, schema, and object refresh activities.
  • Monitors and reports existing database Instance, Database, Server activities for CPU, Memory, and Cache, logs performance, and recommends effective resource utilization/emergency recovery procedures.
  • Implements database security and auditing features and periodic reviews.
  • Conducts root cause analysis for repeated incidents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years as an Oracle DBA, with expertise in design, implementation, backup, recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • 5+ years expertise with multiple AWS DB Services, Lambda creations for automating multiple DB jobs.
  • 5+ years Database automation in AWS with RDS, Lambda using Python, preferable: Oracle, Postgres, AuroraDB.
  • Experience with managing the full life cycle of database schema design and implementation, which includes script management from development through production releases.
  • Experience implementing database schema changes in a live production environment requiring minimal downtime and zero performance impact.
  • Strong analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to source, disseminate and properly apply secondary research.
  • Expertise in high-availability database features, replication, disaster recovery, and live production schema changes.
  • Proficiency with cloud-specific technologies (S3, Route 53, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, AWS Cloudwatch, AWS RDS, AWS Redshift, DynamoDB, Redis), version control tools (Git), and database life-cycle management.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of database security, backup retention policies, and scaling databases.
  • Work with customer, deployment squads, and product management to identify and document use case scenarios.
  • Lead on all data solution aspects including setting data standards and providing deep technical expertise to development teams for best practices, systems, and architectures.
