About the position

As a Database Administrator at Uline, you will be an integral part of our in-house IT team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining database solutions that support our operations as North America's top distributor of shipping, industrial, and packaging materials. This role is based at our corporate headquarters in Pleasant Prairie, WI, or Waukegan, IL, depending on the needs of the business. You will work on custom technology solutions tailored specifically for our growing company, ensuring that our database systems are robust, efficient, and capable of handling the demands of our business operations. In this position, you will design complex databases, tables, stored procedures, views, triggers, and other database objects. You will also be responsible for implementing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) solutions to facilitate data integration and management. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with application development project teams to ensure optimal application performance and database functionality. Proactive monitoring of database performance will be essential, and you will utilize techniques such as indexing, query optimization, and effective database design to enhance performance. Additionally, you will provide day-to-day support for databases and database applications, ensuring that they are properly backed up and that recovery procedures are tested and documented. Your expertise will help maintain the integrity and availability of our data, which is critical to our operations and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex databases, tables, stored procedures, views, triggers, and other database objects.
  • Implement Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) solutions.
  • Work closely with application development project teams to ensure optimal application performance.
  • Proactively monitor database performance and optimize through techniques including indexing and query optimization.
  • Provide day-to-day support for databases and database applications, ensuring proper backups and documented recovery procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field.
  • 5+ years in Database Management or Data Integration.
  • Proficient in a Database Management System such as DataStax, Oracle, or SQL Server.
  • Familiar with replication technologies and ability to read a Logical Data Model.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
