About the position

The an Library & Museum is seeking a Database Administrator to oversee and maintain a variety of databases that support museum and library functions. This role is pivotal in ensuring the interoperability of these databases, which include The Museum System (TMS), Voyager (the OPAC), and a digital asset management system, among others. The Database Administrator will work closely with various stakeholders, including curatorial departments and IT staff, to ensure the integrity and functionality of the databases. The position requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting, upgrading, and documenting database procedures, as well as training users and maintaining data quality across systems. In this role, the Database Administrator will manage the TMS, ensuring its integrity and functionality while collaborating with vendors for troubleshooting and upgrades. Responsibilities include configuring user permissions, creating new user accounts, and providing training and support to database users. The administrator will also be involved in the implementation and ongoing management of the Conservation Studio module for TMS, as well as maintaining the integration between TMS and the OPAC database, CORSAIR, to unify collection data across both museum and library systems. Additionally, the Database Administrator will adopt a middleware database to facilitate future data integration and develop a sales/CRM system for the Imaging and Rights department. This role also involves identifying legacy datasets for incorporation into supported systems and developing frameworks for integrating other databases within the organization. The Database Administrator will assist with other database projects in an advisory capacity, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the museum and library's data management practices.

  • Managing The Museum System (TMS) at the an, including maintaining database integrity and function, working with vendors when necessary to troubleshoot database problems and perform upgrades.

  • Collaborating with librarians and curators to maintain data quality.
  • Completing implementation and ongoing management of Gallery System's Conservation Studio module for TMS.
  • Maintaining integration of the TMS and CORSAIR databases, unifying collection data across both museum and library.
  • Adopting a middleware database to act as a hub for integrating the an's collection data.
  • Developing a sales/CRM system for the Imaging and Rights department to replace their aging Access database.
  • Identifying legacy datasets that should be incorporated into a supported system; modeling and migrating the data.
  • Developing a framework and method for tying in other an databases where feasible and sensible.
  • Assisting with other database projects in an advisory role.

Requirements

  • BA or BS in Computer Science preferred or comparable skills and experience.
  • A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience, particularly with MSSQL and SQL databases, with a preference for cultural institution experience (museum and/or library).
  • Ability to write SQL statements.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with packages in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SSIS/SSDT.
  • Ability to understand and work with data integration among multiple databases.
  • Familiarity with developing reports using Crystal Reports, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), or similar tools.
  • Understanding of metadata standards, data models, and data encodings that relate to art and library collections (Dublin Core, EAD, MARC, IIIF, RDF/Linked Data).
  • Diplomatic and clear communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with end users.
