About the position
We are seeking a highly experienced Database Administrator with a strong focus on PostgreSQL and AWS RDS. The ideal candidate will have 10-12 years of experience managing Postgres databases, with at least 5 years specifically in cloud environments, preferably AWS. The role involves installing, configuring, patching, migrating, maintaining, and upgrading open-source database platforms, particularly PostgreSQL and AWS RDS. The candidate should have a solid understanding of database coding practices, performance improvement techniques, and experience with various database management tools and practices. The position requires hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2 and S3, and a strong background in database administration, security policies, user authentication, and IAM. The candidate should also be proficient in troubleshooting, performance assessment, and capacity planning for AWS RDS databases. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves client-facing responsibilities and collaboration with various teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage and administer PostgreSQL databases and AWS RDS services.
- Install, configure, patch, migrate, maintain, and upgrade open-source database platforms.
- Implement effective and maintainable database coding practices.
- Improve Postgres SQL performance through indexing and other techniques.
- Manage database partitioning and high-performance data concepts.
- Oversee AWS environment management and utilize various tools for database operations.
- Conduct Postgres SQL migration and manage the process technically.
- Utilize Linux OS for database management and remote system connections.
- Write efficient database code while ensuring data quality and security.
- Use tools like Jira, GitHub, Ansible, and Terraform for project management and automation.
- Understand and implement CI/CD processes using GitLab.
- Automate batch processes and job scheduling.
- Apply database design principles and perform query optimization.
Requirements
- 10-12 years of experience in managing Postgres databases.
- 5 years of experience with AWS RDS services.
- Strong experience in database administration in production environments.
- Advanced understanding of Linux OS and SSH connections.
- Hands-on experience with database management tools like PgBouncer and PgPool.
- Proficient in performance assessment and capacity planning for AWS RDS.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with EDB, Oracle, and SQL Server.
- Knowledge of message queuing and full-text indexing.
- Familiarity with AWS Lambda and Python.
