About the position

The Database Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining databases, ensuring their security, availability, and performance. This role involves working closely with Systems and Data Architects to implement database structures, manage backups, and troubleshoot issues. The position requires a strong understanding of relational databases and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
  • Maintains database dictionaries and integrates systems through database design.
  • Maintains and documents shell scripts and batch processes.
  • Ensures that documentation is complete and up-to-date.
  • Develops and applies procedures for periodic database backup.
  • Implements designs and structures provided by Systems and Data Architects, performing installation of software and hardware environments in a timely manner.
  • Prepares appropriate dimensional data structures and provides logical interfaces for the extract/transform/load process.
  • Maintains database availability to users and manages database backup and recovery.
  • Monitors database performance and assists with database security.
  • Develops and implements techniques to prevent system problems, troubleshoots incidents to recover services, and supports root cause analysis.
  • Validates, loads, tests, and verifies data; performs complete functional testing of database structures.
  • Provides project management support regarding technical aspects of implementing project release upgrades.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or IT related field.
  • 3 years of experience using relational databases.
  • Experience retrieving data to perform management and reporting duties.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Oracle and similar databases.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of structured query language (SQL).
  • High-level analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with analysts, developers, testers, and project managers in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
