As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, tuning, implementation, and upgrading of Database Management Systems (DBMS) installations. Your role will involve building database systems that ensure high availability and quality tailored to the specialized roles of end users. You will design and implement databases by conducting thorough requirements gathering sessions with various business users to understand their needs and expectations. Additionally, you will provide guidance and support to Application Developers, assisting them with schema design, code reviews, and SQL query tuning. Your responsibilities will also include data modeling using ER Studio and other database modeling tools, as well as upgrading and improving application schemas and data structures. You will proactively make recommendations for system improvements and will be responsible for determining, enforcing, and documenting database policies, procedures, and standards. Regular testing and evaluations will be part of your duties to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity. You will monitor database performance, implement necessary changes, and apply new patches and versions as required. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Python, and R is essential, as you will work with various database technologies, including traditional RDBMS and document databases like IBM-DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Amazon RDS, and RedShift. The role requires a willingness to travel to set up systems for various clients at unanticipated locations across the nation, as well as to perform feasibility studies and evaluate user requirements. International travel is not required, but domestic travel is a key component of this position.
