The Database Administrator (DBA) position is a scheduled project role focused on managing and transitioning database environments, primarily from Sybase to SQL Server. The current environment is predominantly Sybase 15.7 running on Solaris within an X86 hardware setup, and the organization is planning to migrate to a pure SQL Server environment over the next three years. The SQL Server environment consists of mixed versions of SQL Server operating on various versions of Windows Server, with an upcoming project aimed at updating these versions. This role will involve working with both on-premises servers and Azure-based solutions, reflecting the organization's commitment to modernizing its database infrastructure. The selected candidate will be expected to assist with the Sybase 15.7 environment, which includes running and developing CRON jobs in a Unix setting. Familiarity with Sybase ASE 15.7 is essential, and candidates can be at the level of a junior DBA. The primary responsibility will be to support senior DBAs during after-hours implementations, thereby reducing the overall workload and time required for database management tasks. Additionally, the DBA will be involved in weekly data fixes that occur on Thursdays and Fridays, ensuring the integrity and performance of the database systems. In addition to Sybase responsibilities, the DBA will also assist SQL Server DBAs, which necessitates experience with Windows Servers and SQL Server. The role will include working with database clusters and managing Disaster Recovery processes across development, testing, and production environments. A strong background in migration from Sybase to SQL Server is highly desired, as this will be a critical component of the ongoing transition efforts.
