About the position

Garda Capital Partners is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join their Research and Technology (R&T) team in Wayzata, MN. This role involves providing technical expertise, oversight, and maintenance of multiple databases, including Oracle, Postgres, and SQL Server, while also evaluating migration to cloud databases. The DBA will collaborate with various teams to ensure reliable database environments that support critical applications in financial trading.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of the firm's databases that currently include Oracle (EE), Postgres including Timescale extension, and SQL Server (minor).
  • Establish, monitor, maintain, and manage database health and performance indicators to ensure high availability and high performance.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, identifying root cause and implementing technical resolution in a timely manner.
  • Provide off-hours support as needed to ensure maximum system availability.
  • Design, install, maintain, and upgrade the organization's database environments.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and test database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Assist the application development teams on logical data design and with large data onboarding / data migrations.
  • Liaise with third party database and infrastructure support vendors.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of database management / administration on Oracle or Postgres with increasing scope and responsibilities.
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in computer science or related fields or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with database design and operations.
  • 3+ years of troubleshooting and resolving database issues including performance tuning.
  • Expert level SQL query development and optimization skills.
  • Experience with Linux administration and scripting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize and manage multiple priorities and multitask with limited supervision.
  • Must be able to provide on-call support on an as needed basis (24x5).
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written (English) communication skills with the ability to communicate across and work with a global team.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-energy, time sensitive team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of BI and ETL tools, application development and programming languages (python, C#).
  • Knowledge of cloud databases, cloud architectures, devops is a plus.

Benefits

  • Base pay range: $100K - $150K per year.
