About the position

The Database Administrator at Pedernales Electric Cooperative is responsible for ensuring the integrity, security, and performance of databases in both production and development environments. This role involves monitoring database performance, implementing backup and recovery procedures, maintaining database security, and providing support for various PEC projects. The position offers hybrid work options and requires a proactive approach to database management and technology trends.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor database performance and resources to provide an appropriate level of service
  • Configure systems and perform database refreshes as required to support development, quality assurance and training environments
  • Design, implement, test and monitor database backup and recovery procedures
  • Design and implement systems which provide acceptable levels of service, availability and security
  • Maintain database security by maintaining user accounts with appropriate access roles authentication
  • Maintain database licenses, upgrades and patches
  • Assess and implement routine database maintenance as needed
  • Implement a method of retaining and reporting on long-term database performance data
  • Function as a primary database resource for PEC projects and implementations/conversions
  • Assist in installation and maintenance of database client software as required
  • Assist in management and implementation of PEC business software as requested
  • Effectively triage database issues to determine if vendor support is needed
  • Provide timely after-hours support as needed
  • Research technology trends in database, storage, and virtualization
  • Maintain the security of confidential information
  • Stay abreast of advances in technology
  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • 4 years directly related work experience
  • Directly related experience may substitute for education
  • Skilled in database administration tasks and procedures
  • Skilled in scripting languages
  • Knowledge of using computers and computer systems, including hardware and software to set up functions, enter data or process information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
