About the position

The Database Administrator (DBA) at Changeis, Inc. will be responsible for managing and analyzing large datasets related to the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). This role requires extensive knowledge of database system design, data analysis, and management, with a focus on ensuring data accuracy and supporting the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) data analysis. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience in statistics and database management, particularly with SEVIS technical knowledge and business rules.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize statistical packages to analyze large datasets and provide insights that support business operations.
  • Leverage deep technical knowledge of SEVIS database structure and business rules to manage, analyze, and improve SEVIS-related data processes.
  • Gather and understand system requirements from both a technical and business standpoint, and assess their impact on data.
  • Collaborate with front-end development teams to ensure seamless integration of database modules that support SEVP data analysis.
  • Design, develop, and test database systems, including creating SQL scripts to address mass data fixes and ensure the integrity of SEVIS data.
  • Compare and synchronize SEVIS database object structures between source and target databases.
  • Write complex queries to extract data from Oracle and MongoDB databases for analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Design and develop ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) mappings and scripts to support data migration and integration processes.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of SEVIS interfaces, data transmission processes, and data processing workflows.
  • Identify SEVIS data abnormalities and address them through structured analysis.
  • Support the use of Tableau Server and Desktop for visualizing SEVIS data and reporting insights to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in statistics and using statistical packages for data analysis.
  • At least 10 years of SEVIS experience, including technical knowledge of SEVIS database structure and business rules.
  • Expertise in Oracle database objects, including packages, procedures, functions, triggers, and materialized views.
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries and scripts for data extraction, transformation, and synchronization.
  • Experience in data analysis using Oracle and MongoDB databases.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and tools.
  • Experience with Tableau Server and Desktop for data visualization and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of SEVP data analysis processes and business rules.
  • Ability to identify and resolve SEVIS data anomalies.
  • Experience with database design, testing, and working closely with development teams to support data integration.
  • Ability to gather and understand requirements, and understand how requirements are implemented from a technical standpoint and how it will affect data.
  • Experience with how to compare SEVIS database objects structures between the source and target databases and how to synchronize the database objects.
