The Database Administrator position within the Information Technology department is a critical role responsible for installing and monitoring production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. As a Database Administrator, you will be tasked with developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. This role also involves leading data governance initiatives and assisting with dashboard creation. You will assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases, design and implement redundant systems, and establish policies and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to protect and maintain the integrity of data assets. Your responsibilities will include conducting research and making recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards to support procurement and development efforts. You will install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access, monitor database system details, and implement efficiency improvements. Additionally, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating data migrations, developing change control processes, and creating reports and dashboards in response to business user needs. You will also perform database transaction and security audits, establish end-user database access control levels, and develop routines for best practices in database use. In this role, you will also provide application support across a variety of enterprise applications, liaise with third-party support vendors, and assist in the development of data management policies and procedures. Configuration of Azure tenant management and monitoring workloads in the Azure Portal will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Install and monitor production databases to ensure high levels of data availability.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee database policies and procedures to ensure integrity and availability.
  • Lead data governance initiatives and assist with dashboard creation.
  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards.

  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Monitor database system details and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
  • Develop and maintain change control and testing processes for database modifications.
  • Create or support the creation of required reports and dashboards.
  • Perform database transaction and security audits.
  • Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
  • Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use.
  • Develop, maintain, implement, and test business continuity and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Provide application support across a wide variety of enterprise applications.
  • Liaise with 3rd party support vendors to troubleshoot and resolve support incidents.
  • Develop data models and protocols for mining production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer systems design, computer science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional work experience with database administration or a related field.
  • Knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, and practices; applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Skill with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting database services, including Microsoft SQL Server in an Always-On, clustered configuration.
  • Skill with data preparation, processing, classification, forecasting, and hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Skill in project management, customer service, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Microsoft Visual Studio, Azure Portal, and Power BI.
