About the position

Garda Capital Partners is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join their Research and Technology team. This role involves providing technical expertise and oversight for multiple database environments, including Oracle, Postgres, and SQL Server, while also evaluating migration to cloud databases. The DBA will collaborate with various teams to ensure database reliability and performance, supporting critical applications used in financial trading.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight of the firm's databases including Oracle, Postgres, and SQL Server.
• Establish, monitor, maintain, and manage database health and performance indicators.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identifying root causes and implementing resolutions.
• Provide off-hours support as needed to ensure maximum system availability.
• Design, install, maintain, and upgrade the organization's database environments.
• Implement and test database backup and recovery procedures.
• Assist application development teams with logical data design and data migrations.
• Liaise with third-party database and infrastructure support vendors.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of database management/administration on Oracle or Postgres.
• Minimum bachelor's degree in computer science or related fields or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience with database design and operations.
• 3+ years of troubleshooting and resolving database issues including performance tuning.
• Expert level SQL query development and optimization skills.
• Experience with Linux administration and scripting.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English.

Nice-to-haves

• Working knowledge of BI and ETL tools.
• Familiarity with application development and programming languages (Python, C#).
• Knowledge of cloud databases and cloud architectures.
• Experience with DevOps practices.
