About the position

As a Database Administrator, you will manage, develop, refactor, and optimize database operations to support Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), reporting, and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes within a Business-to-Business (B2B) environment. This role leverages a suite of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, primarily utilizing Microsoft products. You will be expected to analyze and evaluate reported problems, take responsibility for their resolution, and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Your responsibilities will include developing, testing, implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting data extraction, transformation, and loading processes. You will maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters, implementing new releases, and completing maintenance requirements. Additionally, you will install revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts, recommending optimum access techniques, and coordinating installation requirements. Proactive management of database performance tuning and optimization will be a key aspect of your role, along with developing and implementing database business continuity plans and procedures. You will create new databases, tables, views, indexes, scheduled jobs, triggers, and logins based on system specifications, and tune data warehouses and other database systems for optimal performance and reliability. Your role will also involve performing index and statistics maintenance, developing, implementing, administering, and maintaining operational automation scripting, and maintaining technical documentation related to the database systems and processes. You will provide after-hours and weekend escalation support as required, coach, train, and mentor other employees on proper access and use of database systems, and adhere to Scrum principles and philosophies in fulfilling your role. Collaboration across teams and business areas in an Agile setting will be essential, as will reporting and managing risks identified within your work area, including Information Security risks.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate reported problems, take responsibility for resolution, and prevent recurrence.

  • Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implement new releases; complete maintenance requirements.

  • Adhere to Scrum principles and philosophies in fulfillment of the role.
  • Work as a cross-functional team member in an Agile setting to help complete and deliver the team commitments.
  • Collaborate across teams and across business areas in the spirit of an Agile mindset.
  • Report risks that are identified to the appropriate team and/or management.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science / Computer Information Systems or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in database design, development, and general administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of SSIS, TSQL, and MS SQL Server 2008 R2 -2016.
  • Fundamental software development methodologies, design, and implementation.
  • Advanced knowledge of database backup concepts, query optimization, data security, and availability groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • High level of productivity, excellent written and verbal communication skills, team player, positive interpersonal skills, self-motivated and independent thinker.
  • Ability to write fully optimized SQL for various scripts and stored procedures is essential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with other database platforms such as MySQL and NoSQL technologies.
  • Experience with SSRS, C#, and PowerShell would be a plus, but not required.
