About the position

Costco Wholesale Corporation is seeking a Database Administrator for its Issaquah, Washington office. The primary responsibility of this role is to evaluate, review, and manage database resources and services in support of Costco's Oracle and iSeries landscapes. The Database Administrator will be tasked with setting up and maintaining the database infrastructure from the ground up, ensuring that all database infrastructure and objects are deployed and maintained effectively. This includes maintaining database security, integrity, and availability, as well as managing database performance and capacity. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Database Administrator will implement database design enhancements and collaborate closely with the Development team and server administrators. This collaboration will involve tasks such as dropping and adding partitions, performing index maintenance including reorganizations, and data purging. The role also requires reviewing and approving forms, table, and index creation using the Turnover process. It is essential for the Database Administrator to maintain detailed documentation of database design and architecture, as well as the setup processes. Furthermore, the position involves establishing procedures for backup and recovery, as well as disaster recovery, and implementing database security procedures. The Database Administrator will also provide support to the user community using incident and problem management tools. Telecommuting is permitted for this position.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in production database administration.
  • Experience with Unix platforms.
  • Experience in performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in SQL and iSeries languages.
  • Familiarity with DB tools/utilities including Toad, Enterprise Manager, Utilities, SQL Developer, and IBM iAccess.
