About the position

The Database Administrator at Fort Johnson is responsible for managing, securing, and maintaining the organization's database systems. This role requires a deep understanding of database management systems (DBMS) and the ability to ensure data integrity, security, and availability. The Database Administrator will collaborate with IT professionals and stakeholders to design, implement, and manage database solutions that support the organization's operations and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize the organization's database systems, ensuring their performance, security, and availability.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity by implementing appropriate data models, normalization standards, and data validation procedures.
  • Develop and manage database backup and recovery plans to ensure data is safeguarded and can be restored in case of data loss or corruption.
  • Implement and enforce database security measures in compliance with DOD 8140 standards and Secret Clearance requirements, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning measures to optimize query execution and resource utilization.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, providing support to users and ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database schemas, tables, indexes, and views that support application development and reporting needs.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge transfer and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Adhere to and enforce all DOD 8140 compliance standards, ensuring that all database activities are conducted in a secure and compliant manner.
  • Work closely with other IT staff, including network administrators, security analysts, and developers, to ensure that database systems integrate seamlessly with other technology solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration, with a focus on DBMS such as SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
  • Experience with database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and data modeling.
  • Relevant database administration certifications (e.g., Oracle DBA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator).
  • DOD 8140 (or equivalent) certification required.
  • Active Secret Clearance is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a DOD or government environment.
  • Advanced certifications in database management or cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions and technologies.
