About the position

As a Database Administrator at GDIT, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing our database systems. This position involves coordinating changes to databases, testing and implementing new database solutions, and planning security measures to safeguard our data. You will be responsible for developing standards and user guidelines for database access, modifying existing databases, and ensuring the integrity and security of our information against unauthorized access or damage. Your expertise will be essential in scheduling, planning, and supervising the installation and testing of new products, as well as monitoring database performance and optimizing parameters for efficiency. In this role, you will be expected to analyze customer requirements and provide technical solutions to complex problems. You will apply your knowledge of API (Application Programming Interface) for data services and databases, and design, develop, and administer database management systems. This includes database modeling and design, relational database architecture, and the creation of metadata and repositories. You will also be responsible for defining database organizations, standards, controls, and procedures, and providing technical consulting in the definition and creation of a robust database environment. Additionally, you will advise application development staff and users on data-based solutions to business problems, ensuring that our database management system facilities and capabilities are utilized effectively. You will maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies and may coach less-experienced professionals, serving as a technical team lead when necessary. This position requires a self-starter who can work independently and is committed to delivering high-quality database solutions.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in operations research, computer science, test engineering, business, mathematics, management science, aviation, aeronautical, or air traffic management/science.
  • 6+ years of related experience in database administration and management.
  • Strong knowledge of database architecture, implementation, and management.
  • Experience with API for data services and databases.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL/PostGIS and Python scripting for data management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Database administration and management technical training and certifications (e.g., Oracle Certifications, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
  • Higher-level IT and data management degrees.
  • Airport Operations experience or previous experience supporting FAA-related work.
