About the position

Supermicro Computer, Inc. is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join their team in San Jose, CA. The role involves managing SQL Server Database Services, ensuring optimal performance, and providing support for critical systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration, performance tuning, and disaster recovery solutions, working collaboratively with IT and application teams to enhance database environments.

Responsibilities

  • Follow enterprise standards and best practices for data storage, maintenance, access, backup, recovery, and security.
  • Install, update, configure, and provide production support for SQL Server Database Services and servers.
  • Monitor SQL databases, respond to alerts, and provide on-call support as needed.
  • Collaborate with application and IT teams to design and optimize database environments.
  • Perform advanced database administration tasks including installation, configuration, monitoring, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Manage SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Group installations and configurations.
  • Conduct database environment reviews and recommend improvements to application owners.
  • Provide high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions for development, testing, and production environments.
  • Create technical documentation on technology standards and procedures, and make optimization recommendations.
  • Analyze performance metrics of transactional databases and provide tuning recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience, or equivalent education and work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of database performance tuning.
  • Experience writing T-SQL stored procedures and complex queries.
  • Experience in installation, configuration, patching, migration, and upgrades of SQL Server.
  • Good understanding of architecture principles within MS SQL Server technologies.
  • Ability to provide 24/7 support for critical systems.
  • Experience with both on-premise and cloud database environments.
  • Proficient in SQL query tuning, including profiling, indexing, and understanding execution plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MySQL is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS is beneficial.
