About the position

The Database Administrator position at Carteret County Government's Information Technology Department involves managing and maintaining SQL databases and various third-party applications. The role requires a strong background in computer information systems and systems analysis, focusing on data management, reporting, and technical problem resolution. The Database Administrator will work closely with county staff and external vendors to ensure efficient data operations and provide training on technology use.

Responsibilities

  • Processes and submits all internal and external data requests.
  • Designs, creates, maintains, supports, installs, and configures new instances of SQL Server and associated databases as needed.
  • Performs updates and/or hotfixes to SQL server/database environments.
  • Tunes SQL parameters affecting data access, response times, and integrity.
  • Designs, programs, implements, and maintains new and existing reports in a MS SQL server environment.
  • Creates, maintains, supports, and configures SharePoint and OneDrive for the County and various Departments.
  • Acts as the system administrator for BI-Tek Tax System software, analyzing and resolving issues, writing and creating reports, and managing integrations with third-party systems.
  • Acts as the system administrator for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software, analyzing and resolving issues, programming CAD codes, and coordinating AVL needs for Public Safety Departments.
  • Processes and completes all Federal and State required taxation reports.
  • Performs weekly, monthly, and annual quality review of Tax and CAD data as requested by staff.
  • Assists Tax Administrator with processing the annual public service billing file.
  • Serves as technology liaison with all internal and external entities.
  • Provides training to departments on the use of system reports, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Maintains statistics and records; prepares reports and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer information systems, computer science, or business administration with major coursework involving SQL databases.
  • Considerable systems analysis experience utilizing SQL databases and related programs.
  • Training and experience involving Microsoft Excel, SQL, and SSRS.
  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports or other report writing skills preferred.
  • Experience creating reports and analyzing data in an appraisal or tax setting, ERP systems, CAD/public safety, property tax processes, and related tax business systems preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with report writing in Crystal Reports or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and public safety CAD systems.
