About the position

SAIC is seeking a Principal IT Systems Engineer Database Administrator to support Operational C2 Acquisition Delta priorities, focusing on delivering integrated Ops Space Command and Control (C2) capabilities. This role involves overseeing the software lifecycle and deployment of USSF Cloud Initiatives, aimed at enhancing performance and user experience while reducing administrative overhead.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, upgrade, and migration of database instances, both on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Administer, maintain, develop, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database environment.
  • Conduct thorough performance tuning of database systems to ensure optimal performance in high volume data environments.
  • Monitor database system details, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Manage, monitor, and maintain data replication, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Provide database support for software development and deployment, integrating databases with data visualization and language translation tools.
  • Implement and maintain database security controls and conduct vulnerability assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Nine (9)+ years of related experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Active Top Secret clearance; must be a current US Citizen.
  • Proven experience in analytics and software development support.
  • Strong knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, and practices, including relational and non-relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or equivalent database technologies, as well as cloud-based database management (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ETL processes, data modeling, and data warehousing principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with DevOps practices, infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and the ability to drive high-quality, iterative development.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, real-time systems, and experience with embedded systems.
