About the position

The Database Administrator at the College of Southern Maryland is responsible for managing information technology projects and providing primary database administration for college software applications. This role involves supporting existing enterprise systems, implementing new technologies, and ensuring the efficient operation of software systems, including Document Imaging and the Ellucian's Colleague ERP system. The position requires collaboration with various departments to meet their goals and objectives while maintaining high standards of technical expertise and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage information technology projects from inception to completion.
  • Provide primary database administration of college software applications.
  • Support existing enterprise systems and new technology products and services.
  • Administer current software applications at the database, operational, and enterprise levels.
  • Implement new and innovative products and services throughout the college.
  • Coordinate with software support staff to enhance programming efficiencies.
  • Conduct analysis to determine the impact of new applications on the College database(s).
  • Support fiscal management of application system projects.
  • Provide analytical, research, and reporting support for business programs.
  • Build and maintain Business Intelligence & Alignment dashboards.
  • Participate in process improvement and re-engineering project initiatives.
  • Provide support in the use of business analytics tools like CROA and Power BI.
  • Investigate new technologies, products, and services.
  • Assist operational users in resolving enterprise system data and software issues.
  • Document and train end users on software solutions and reporting tools.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required and 5 years' experience in Database Administration or Software Programming.
  • Experience with CROA, Power BI, Unidata, Oracle, Perceptive Content, MS Access, and SQL Server preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management principles focused on information system technologies.
  • Ability to plan and execute multiple complex technical projects concurrently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer technology field preferred.
  • Document Management and MS SQL administration certifications are desirable.
  • Experience participating on technical project teams.
  • Working knowledge of relational database reporting tools preferred.
