About the position

The Database Administrator (DBA) at Partnership HealthPlan of California is responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of all Oracle and SQL databases within the organization's infrastructure. The role focuses on developing database strategies, enhancing performance, ensuring security, and planning for future database expansion to support business operations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 support for all production database services to ensure high availability, resilience, integrity, security, and performance.
  • Install and upgrade database servers and application tools.
  • Allocate system storage and plan future storage requirements for the database system.
  • Create primary database storage structures (table spaces) and primary objects (tables, views, indexes).
  • Modify the database structure as necessary based on input from application developers.
  • Enroll users and maintain system security, ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreements.
  • Control and monitor user access to data in all databases.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance.
  • Plan for backup and recovery of database information in collaboration with IT Operations staff.
  • Maintain archived data in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Interface with database vendors for technical support issues.
  • Install production and test database environments as needed.
  • Help manage the virtual database environment and assist IT Operations staff in troubleshooting issues.
  • Assist PHC staff with writing ad-hoc queries for reporting requirements.
  • Evaluate Oracle/SQL Server features and related products, providing business case justifications.
  • Assist the Data Warehouse team during the design, implementation, and support of the PHC Data Warehouse system.
  • Perform patch management and version control across all databases at PHC.
  • Set up and maintain documentation and standards for all PHC databases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle 10g/11g, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and MS SQL Server 20xx with production support experience in a multi-project environment.
  • Five years of database administration experience in an Oracle environment and two years of SQL Server administration experience.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux in a multi-domain environment, including basic command structures and shell scripting.
  • Experience writing scripts in RMAN for backups, restores, and exporting database schemas.

Nice-to-haves

  • MCITP Database Administrator certification and/or Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Professional (OCP).
  • Experience working with multiple projects/tasks and the ability to prioritize on the fly.
  • Managed care or practice management experience with a health plan.
