About the position

The Database Administrator at Powers Health is responsible for managing and optimizing databases to meet user needs and align with the organizational strategy of Community Healthcare System. This role involves supporting application administrators and system engineers, ensuring database performance, security, and compliance, and participating in disaster recovery planning. The position requires expertise in Microsoft SQL or Intersystems Iris and involves both remote work and occasional onsite travel for projects.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure assigned databases meet user needs and comply with organizational strategy.
  • Support day-to-day activities of Application Administrators, System Engineers, and end users.
  • Perform performance tuning, security hardening, upgrades/patching, backups/restores, and disaster recovery of databases.
  • Administer and design assigned databases, focusing on performance, data integrity, and optimization.
  • Participate in the implementation of new databases and database servers.
  • Handle day-to-day technical issues and database maintenance for enterprise applications.
  • Contribute to the help desk knowledge base to assist users.
  • Provide second and third level support to System Administrators and System Engineers.
  • Plan and implement disaster recovery systems and document the DR process.
  • Monitor backups to ensure they complete daily and verify compliance with vendor licensing agreements.
  • Facilitate communication among IT staff and users, providing updates to management.
  • Create diagrams of workflows and server configurations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required.
  • Minimum three years of experience with Intersystems Iris or Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Certification in the respective database preferred.
  • Minimum two years of scripting experience.
  • Knowledge of Linux or Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of VMware ESXi.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation and respond to issues after hours.
