About the position

The Database Administrator at Regenstrief Institute plays a crucial role in supporting a large statewide research repository, which is essential for research activities. This position primarily focuses on Oracle databases while also providing secondary support for Postgres databases. The role is hybrid, requiring at least one day onsite based on business needs, but may also be considered fully remote depending on the candidate's location.

Responsibilities

• Support a large statewide research repository of 50TB and growing.
• Provide primary support for Oracle databases and secondary support for Postgres databases.
• Install and maintain the Oracle RDBMS.
• Manage and maintain database storage structures and backups.
• Monitor database performance and make recommendations for improvements.
• Regularly review and update database security protocols.
• Assist application teams and data analysts with query tuning and debugging.
• Refactor database maintenance processes for improved performance and scalability.
• Utilize Shareplex to replicate data in near real-time.
• Perform all aspects of data and database administration, including software evaluation, logical and physical database design, and security administration.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in information systems or a related field, or extensive experience in place of a degree.
• At least five years of experience with Oracle database applications.
• Ability to complete Human Subjects Certification upon hire.
• PostgreSQL and/or Oracle certifications preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with relational database design and data-modeling concepts.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies.
• Experience with performance and maintenance techniques.
