About the position

The Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, as well as Kafka, on an in-house Kubernetes platform. This role involves performing regular maintenance tasks, monitoring database performance, and implementing security measures to ensure high availability and compliance with data privacy regulations.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, and Kafka.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as reindexing, backups, patching, and software upgrades.
• Monitor the performance and health of databases, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
• Design and implement growth strategies for databases to handle increasing data needs.
• Collaborate with software developers and scientific computing staff to optimize database performance.
• Develop and implement security measures to protect databases from unauthorized access or data breaches.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Kafka.
• Extensive experience with database design, performance tuning, and optimization.
• Experience with database security best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
