About the position

The position involves providing highly scalable and performant databases that drive features and functions for the firm's product platform. The successful candidate will work proactively with development, operations, and support teams to provide technical and operational support of database servers. This includes logical and physical database design, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance-tuning, monitoring, and optimization. The role is critical in supporting and ensuring uptime for mission-critical PostgreSQL data applications and services. Responsibilities also include performing configuration, performance, security, automation, and observability tasks to enhance the database environment. The candidate will be responsible for developing automation, high-availability, performance, and end-to-end optimizations of the firm's databases. Monitoring and ensuring uptime for all production and test databases is a key aspect of the role. The individual will develop and implement procedures for automated monitoring, incident response, performance, and high availability of databases. Participation in architecting and designing zero-downtime database services is expected, along with using strong communication skills to collaborate with key stakeholders across Engineering, Architecture, and Product teams to provide database application features for the firm's customers. Additionally, the candidate will work closely with Database Engineers to ensure query optimization and performance tuning. Developing data protection strategies, including regular backups and recovery processes, is also part of the job. The role leverages cloud technologies to improve performance, reliability, and quality while reducing costs for the firm's database services. The position allows for telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S., with a salary range of $116,776 - $123,887 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide highly scalable and performant databases for the firm's product platform.
  • Work with development, operations, and support teams to provide technical and operational support of database servers.
  • Perform logical and physical database design, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance-tuning, monitoring, and optimization.
  • Support and ensure uptime for mission-critical PostgreSQL data applications and services.
  • Perform configuration, performance, security, automation, and observability tasks.
  • Develop automation, high-availability, performance, and end-to-end optimizations of the firm's databases.
  • Monitor and ensure uptime of all production and test databases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or related field.
  • 3 years of professional experience as a Database Administrator, Database Analyst, or in a related role involving database administration.
  • 3 years of professional experience setting up and managing PostgreSQL cloud-native environments (including AWS).
  • 3 years of professional experience working with modern cloud-native environments (including AWS) and containerization technologies.
  • 3 years of professional experience performing PostgreSQL database server architecture, concepts, features, and high-availability strategies.
  • 3 years of professional experience managing geographically dispersed infrastructure and disaster recovery environments.
  • 3 years of professional experience utilizing scripting/programming languages (including Bash or AWS CLI).
