The Database Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining databases, ensuring optimal access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection, security, documentation, and statistical methods. This role involves maintaining database dictionaries and integrating systems through effective database design. The administrator will also maintain and document shell scripts and batch processes, ensuring that all documentation is complete and up-to-date. A critical aspect of this position is developing and applying procedures for periodic database backup to safeguard data integrity. In this role, the Database Administrator will implement designs and structures provided by Systems and Data Architects, performing timely installations of software and hardware environments in accordance with current release levels. They will create and maintain schedules for software maintenance and upgrades, ensuring that the database remains available to users. The administrator will also monitor database performance, assist with database security, and develop techniques to prevent system problems. Troubleshooting incidents to recover services and supporting root cause analysis are essential functions of this position. The Database Administrator will validate, load, test, and verify data, performing complete functional testing of database structures across all environments, including development, test, and production. Additionally, they will provide project management support regarding technical aspects of implementing project release upgrades for assigned systems, which includes following a project life cycle, developing project plans, and completing all necessary documentation and notifications to ensure timely resolution of issues.
