About the position

CAN Community Health, one of the nation's largest providers of HIV Services, is seeking a passionate Database Administrator to join our team in Tampa, FL. This role is crucial in supporting our mission to serve individuals impacted by HIV and other infectious diseases. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for designing and implementing high-quality database systems tailored to meet the specialized needs of our end-users. Your work will ensure data availability, integrity, and security, which are vital for our operations. In this position, you will manage user roles and permissions, enabling efficient data distribution in a timely manner. You will collaborate with infrastructure colleagues to maintain robust data backup and recovery strategies, minimizing downtime and ensuring data continuity. Performance optimization will also be a key focus, as you monitor database performance, apply necessary patches, and optimize query responses. Additionally, you will enforce database policies and procedures to safeguard sensitive information, ensuring compliance with data security and privacy standards. Your role will also involve troubleshooting technical issues promptly and providing proactive support to users. Clear documentation of database design, changes, and coding will be essential to maintain transparency and facilitate future updates. You will have the opportunity to innovate by partnering with infrastructure colleagues to enable the safe use of Protected Health Information with predictive analytics and AI technologies such as R and Python. This position operates in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment. The role may require additional hours beyond the normal operating schedule and occasional weekend work. Travel is primarily during business hours, with some out-of-area and overnight travel expected. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-quality database systems that meet the specialized needs of end-users.
  • Ensure data availability, integrity, and security.
  • Define user roles and permissions for efficient data distribution.
  • Partner with infrastructure colleagues to maintain robust data backup and recovery strategies.
  • Monitor database performance, apply patches, and optimize query responses.
  • Enforce database policies, procedures, and standards to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues promptly and provide proactive support to users.
  • Maintain clear documentation of database design, changes, and coding.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure colleagues to enable safe use of Protected Health Information with predictive analytics and AI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or Associate's degree with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL, data backup, recovery, and security.
  • Familiarity with database design principles and documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools.
