The Database Administrator position involves delivering conceptual, logical, and physical data models to identify the authoritative source for shared data elements within the Department of Energy (DOE). The role requires the use of the Erwin Data Modeler tool to connect to existing databases and Operational Data Stores (ODS) to create graphical representations in the form of Entity Relationships. The Database Administrator will plan, implement, and manage systems initiatives in collaboration with IT and customer teams, establishing and maintaining technical data standards as outlined in data dictionaries and source-to-target mapping documents. In addition to modeling and standards maintenance, the position includes responsibilities for database performance monitoring, capacity planning, and trend forecasting. The Database Administrator will document and improve processes, procedures, and best practices to align with industry standards and customer needs, ensuring compliance with disaster recovery requirements to meet Business Resumption needs. Coordination with database analysts is essential to execute Data Definition Language (DDL) changes after the Quality Assurance (QA) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) processes with the business. The role also encompasses data management, implementing and supporting SQL Server databases, analyzing source databases, and creating objects within target systems/databases to support business processes. Database normalization will be performed to qualify data and create reference tables to maintain referential integrity. The Database Administrator will create a centralized data warehouse using the Erwin Data Modeler tool and maintain Entity/Relationship (E/R) models and relationships. Monitoring and tuning databases for performance and concurrency using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) is also a critical aspect of the job.
