About the position

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc. (SGA) is seeking a skilled Database Administrator for a contract assignment with one of our premier financial services clients located in Alpharetta, GA. The Database Administrator will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining the integrity and performance of the databases used by our client. This position requires a deep understanding of various database systems and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize database performance to meet the demands of a high-traffic environment. The primary responsibilities of the Database Administrator include writing and maintaining database programs, designing new databases according to business requirements, and continuously monitoring databases to ensure high functionality. The role also involves automating processes, troubleshooting performance issues, debugging existing scripts, and reviewing database reports to identify and resolve potential problems. Additionally, the Database Administrator will be responsible for carrying out recovery operations in the event of system failures and ensuring that production uptime service levels are maintained. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the installation, upgrade, and patching of various database components, including Sybase, MS SQL Server, and Postgres. Experience with replication, schema creation, auditing, and disaster recovery setup is essential. The role also requires proficiency in automation using scripting languages such as shell-script, Python, and Ansible, as well as performance tuning and monitoring of SQL queries. Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain database programs to ensure they can handle the flow of traffic and data storage.
  • Design new databases according to business requirements and data storage needs.
  • Continuously monitor databases and related systems for high functionality.
  • Write new support programs and scripts for database automation and problem resolution.
  • Troubleshoot platform-specific performance issues affecting database functionality.
  • Debug existing database scripts and programs to ensure optimal performance.
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly database reports to identify and resolve issues.
  • Carry out recovery of databases in the event of log full or system crashes.
  • Monitor all systems including work processes, users, system logs, and disk space.
  • Ensure production uptime service levels are maintained, including backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Provide data cleansing services and verify data integrity.
  • Implement access controls and perform routine maintenance including problem defect analysis.

Requirements

  • Expertise in installation, upgrade, and patching of Sybase, MS SQL Server, and Postgres.
  • Experience with replication setup, troubleshooting, and failovers.
  • Experience with schema creation, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of auditing and audit trails setup and configuration.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery setup and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in automation using shell-script, Python, Ansible, and Go.
  • Performance analysis and tuning expertise, including monitoring SQL queries.
