The Database Administrator (DBA) position is crucial for implementing various DBA initiatives and assisting with the administration and troubleshooting of our Production, Test, and Development SQL environments. This role supports database deployment, availability, growth, and upgrades, ensuring that our SQL infrastructure is robust and efficient. The DBA will perform lead roles in implementing SQL projects, coordinating with application owners, developers, and vendors to schedule maintenance windows, and validating application operational status. In addition to these responsibilities, the DBA will work closely with server, security, and backup teams to manage VM server setups, security protocols, and disaster recovery strategies. The role requires providing administrative support to the SQL environment, which includes installing, monitoring, and supporting SQL server instances and various SQL components such as SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS. The DBA will also be responsible for database migrations, user administration, and troubleshooting connectivity and performance issues. This position requires a proactive approach to database management, including monitoring data storage capacity and maintaining inventory documentation of all SQL databases. The DBA will also be expected to write T-SQL code and stored procedures to automate and support DBA tasks, and will be required to be on-call for database support as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform lead DBA role in implementing various SQL projects.
  • Coordinate with application owners, developers, and vendors to schedule application maintenance windows and validate application operational status.
  • Work with server, security, and backup teams to perform various VM server, security, and disaster recovery setups.
  • Develop project implementation strategies in collaboration with the DBA manager.
  • Provide build documentation and status updates as required by the DBA manager.
  • Install, monitor, and support SQL server instances and various SQL components (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS).
  • Support various SQL High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.
  • Manage database migrations and user administration.
  • Support client application installations and create new databases.
  • Backup, recover, and rollback production, test, and development databases.
  • Troubleshoot application database connectivity, SQL server issues, and query performance.
  • Monitor and manage data storage capacity of SQL Servers to support database growth.
  • Maintain inventory documentation of all SQL databases and update status with DB/application owners.
  • Proactively identify obsolete databases and manage their archiving and deletion.
  • Write T-SQL code and stored procedures to monitor and automate DBA tasks.
  • Be available for on-call database support and multi-task as needed.

Requirements

  • Four (4) year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a DBA role.
  • Experience in troubleshooting database performance issues and SQL performance tuning.
  • Proficient in T-SQL programming.
  • Strong asset: PowerShell or other programming languages; Windows Server administration, experience working in Active Directory.
  • Other assets: Experience working in AWS and Azure cloud.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize deliverables/responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good verbal & written communication skills.
