About the position

The Database Administrator position at QinetiQ US is a critical role that supports mission clients within the Intelligence Community. This position involves the development and implementation of databases and database services, particularly in cloud environments such as AWS and Azure. The successful candidate will engage in database engineering tasks, which include schema development and the design and implementation of data ingestion procedures. Additionally, the role requires lightweight data engineering, which involves cleaning and conditioning data from various sources and loading it into both local and cloud databases. The Database Administrator will also be responsible for SQL design and implementation, which is essential for database creation, maintenance, and responding to ad-hoc query needs for mission purposes, such as data exports. Another key responsibility includes designing and building specialized tools that utilize the database to generate custom products, including document automation. Depending on the candidate's interests and capabilities, there may also be opportunities to contribute significantly to other data science tasks beyond the immediate database needs. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a diverse and fast-paced environment, as it requires managing competing priorities while working closely with senior team members. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement databases and database services (e.g., Aurora) in the cloud (AWS, Azure)
  • Engage in database engineering, including schema development and designing/implementing data ingestion procedures
  • Perform lightweight data engineering tasks such as cleaning and conditioning data from various sources and loading it into local and cloud databases
  • Design and implement SQL as part of database creation, maintenance, and in response to ad-hoc query needs for mission purposes
  • Design and build specialized tools utilizing the database to generate custom products, including document automation
  • Contribute to other data science tasks beyond database needs, depending on candidate interest and capabilities

Requirements

  • Database administration experience, including cloud-based platforms
  • Working knowledge of data and ETL topics
  • Experience with Cloud DevOps (AWS, Azure)
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a diverse, fast-paced, multi-task environment and manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph required

  • Bachelor's degree with 4 or more years of relevant experience
