About the position

The Database Administrator position focuses on the evaluation, planning, design, configuration, and project management of commercial database software application systems, particularly in the context of Epic Cogito systems and SQL Database Administration. The role involves analyzing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining installed systems while providing user support and documentation. The Database Administrator will also participate in quality management initiatives and assist in managing customer expectations and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, plan, design, configure, and project manage implementations of commercial database software application systems.
  • Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and maintain installed systems and support users.
  • Provide documentation to support system design, testing, and training.
  • Assist with the management of customer expectations and interactions.
  • Participate in team quality management initiatives.
  • Work on simple to medium complexity database design and development assignments.
  • Provide technical assistance to address production database and performance problems.
  • Execute monitoring plans, analyze environment capacity, apply software upgrades, and evaluate system performance.
  • Implement Epic environment upgrade plans and provide technical support assistance.
  • Participate in feature identification and prioritization.
  • Outline and define database requirements specifications for simple to medium scope projects.
  • Analyze databases and research requirements.
  • Assess conceptual and logical data models and identify system platforms, components, and dependencies.
  • Apply appropriate database design principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Determine data views and incorporate security requirements into design.
  • Participate in security administration and enforce security requirements.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical personnel.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of healthcare information technology, typically acquired through a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a minimum of two years' experience with information technology systems.
  • One year or more experience in database disciplines, including development and maintenance of hierarchical and/or relational databases.
  • Must possess or agree to attain certification in Epic Operational Database Administrator within six months of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year programming experience preferred.
  • Experience with using information technology in the healthcare industry.
  • Experience in relevant database applications is preferred.
  • Two or more years' experience with information technology systems based in Unix or Linux.
