About the position

The Database Administrator position at Paramount Solutions is a long-term contract role based in Lansing, MI, with a hybrid work model. The selected candidate will primarily work with Sybase and SQL Server environments, assisting in the transition from Sybase to a pure SQL Server setup over the next three years. The role requires a minimum of 4-5 years of experience with both Sybase and SQL Server, with a strong emphasis on troubleshooting skills. Candidates must be able to articulate their skills as listed on their resumes during the interview process. The work schedule is expected to be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with two days required on-site. There is an on-call rotation that may require assistance during weekends, particularly from Saturday morning to Monday morning, after an initial learning period. Overtime and weekend work are rare and must be pre-approved. The environment is predominantly Sybase, specifically version 15.7 on Solaris, and the SQL Server environment consists of mixed versions on Windows Server, with an upcoming project to update these versions. The DBA will also be involved in running and developing CRON jobs, and familiarity with Unix is essential. The primary goal of this position is to support the existing Sybase environment and assist senior DBAs with after-hours implementations and weekly data fixes. Additionally, the DBA will help alleviate the workload of SQL Server DBAs, requiring experience with Windows Servers, SQL Server, clusters, and Disaster Recovery processes in various environments including development, testing, and production. A strong background in migration from Sybase to SQL Server is highly desired, as this will be a key focus of the role.
