About the position

The Database Analyst/Programmer position at Radiant Digital in Bethesda, MD, is a contract role focused on the design, development, and implementation of multi-terabyte databases. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, designing, and developing data models, as well as writing, modifying, and testing SQL and other database scripts and stored procedures. This role requires a strong emphasis on data analysis and reporting, ensuring that databases are optimized for performance through query tuning, indexing, and schema modifications. In addition to database design and development, the Database Analyst/Programmer will participate in database backup and recovery procedures, assist in database security administration and compliance, and collaborate with application development teams to ensure that database structures align with application requirements. The role also involves providing database support and troubleshooting, testing the integrity, security, and availability of databases, and ensuring that all database operations meet the highest standards of performance and reliability. This position is ideal for individuals who have a passion for database technology and a strong background in database management systems. The candidate will be expected to take initiative, manage problems independently, and work collaboratively with diverse teams to address database application issues. The role requires a proactive approach to managing and prioritizing multiple tasks effectively, ensuring that all database-related activities are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design, development, and implementation of multi-terabyte databases.
  • Review, design, and develop data models.
  • Write, modify, and test SQL and other database scripts and stored procedures.
  • Perform data analysis and reporting.
  • Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and schema modifications.
  • Participate in database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Assist in database security administration and compliance.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to ensure database alignment with application requirements.
  • Provide database support and troubleshooting.
  • Test the integrity, security, and availability of databases.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in designing, developing, and testing various databases including Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), SQL, MySQL, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Amazon RDS.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, MySQL, and PostgreSQL administration including installations and configurations.
  • General understanding of the Linux operating system, security concepts, storage technologies, and networking.
  • Experience in database performance tuning techniques.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Perl, Bash).
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot database issues.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering performance and availability of solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and manage problems independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with diverse groups of people in various teams to address database application issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, Ruby).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Certifications: Certified Oracle Database Administrator / MySQL Certified Database Administrator / any database administration certificate to include AWS certified data analyst.
