About the position

As a Database Administrator 2 at Kwik Trip, you will be responsible for administering the company's database environment, primarily focusing on Microsoft SQL. This role involves both independent work and collaboration with teams to maintain and improve the SQL estate, respond to incidents, and develop database strategies. You will also play a key role in ensuring data privacy and security, as well as business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve Kwik Trip's SQL estate.
  • Respond to database-related incidents and problems.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, business analysts, and external vendors to develop and maintain database system strategies.
  • Assist in creating, maintaining, and communicating a Database Administration roadmap.
  • Monitor OS and database platform lifecycle management.
  • Participate in business and vendor relationship management efforts.
  • Work with the Availability and Recovery team on business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Security Team to ensure data privacy and security standards are maintained.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of experience in SQL Database Administration, or a minimum of 5+ years of experience in SQL Database Administration.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft SQL Server, focusing on setup, maintenance, management, and migration of servers.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Azure database products.
  • Ability to tune and optimize Database performance using index management and statistics.
  • Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-prioritization skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with PowerShell, SQL reporting services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS).
  • Ability to provide basic support for other database platforms (e.g., MySQL, Cosmos DB, Postgres, etc.).
  • Fundamental knowledge in SQL encryption technologies.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Service Now, and Scrum methodologies.
  • Ability to improve SQL estate through automation.
