About the position

The Database Analyst position at Rose International in Tallahassee, FL, is a temporary role focused on the design, development, and support of database management systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing data requirements, application architectures, and database schemas to ensure they meet the needs of various systems. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of database languages and integration, particularly in SQL, API integration, and data warehousing concepts. The Database Analyst will work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and develop data migration plans, ensuring a seamless transition from existing systems to new platforms. In this position, the Database Analyst will conduct thorough data analysis to understand the structure and relationships of existing systems, particularly the FLAIR system and its interactions with departmental systems. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including developers and project managers, to define integration strategies and technical solutions. The analyst will also be responsible for writing data reports, creating documentation, and conducting testing to ensure the accuracy and performance of integrated systems. The Database Analyst will establish database policies and procedures, evaluate user requests for new data elements, and coordinate the use of organizational data to maintain integrity and control redundancy. Additionally, the analyst will develop feasibility studies and cost/benefit analyses for database projects, educate management on long-range data planning, and ensure the security of database systems. This role is critical in supporting the information needs of the business in a flexible and secure environment, making it essential for the analyst to stay updated on data governance principles and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, models, develops, and supports database management systems.
  • Analyzes data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schema(s).
  • Gathers, analyzes, and normalizes relevant information related to business processes to evaluate data credibility.
  • Develops database and warehousing designs across multiple platforms.
  • Conducts comprehensive data analysis to understand the structure and relationships of existing systems.
  • Gathers requirements from stakeholders to identify integration needs for the PALM system.
  • Collaborates with project teams to define integration strategies and technical solutions.
  • Develops data migration plans and strategies for transitioning from FLAIR to Florida PALM.
  • Integrates departmental systems with the Florida PALM system and other relevant systems.
  • Writes data reports and creates documentation for system configurations and integration processes.
  • Conducts thorough testing to ensure the accuracy and performance of integrated systems.
  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting during the onboarding and integration process.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to address issues during integration.
  • Assesses future information requirements to develop long-range database plans.
  • Establishes database policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates user requests for new data elements and incorporates them into the existing data environment.
  • Coordinates the use of organizational data to ensure integrity and control redundancy.
  • Develops database feasibility studies and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Establishes database design techniques using data modeling and prototyping software.
  • Analyzes and proposes changes to database structures.
  • Maintains data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions.
  • Determines necessary database security measures.
  • Assists in the selection of database management software.
  • Educates management on the need for long-range data planning.
  • Develops and controls procedures for saving, retrieving, and recovering databases.
  • Coordinates reorganizations with applications and systems staff.
  • Acts as a consultant to applications and systems programming staff on database management standards.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in management information systems or computer sciences.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Database Administration, DBMS design, and support.
  • Advanced understanding of SQL for data analysis and manipulation.
  • Advanced knowledge of API integration and data warehouse concepts.
  • Advanced understanding of data migration processes.
  • Experience with application refactoring and modernization projects.
  • Familiarity with popular DBMS platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and optimizing database performance.
  • Knowledge of data integration methods and tools, such as ETL processes and data synchronization techniques.
  • Understanding of API concepts and experience with integrating systems using APIs.
  • Proficiency in data mapping techniques and data transformation processes.
  • Understanding of data warehousing principles and practices.
  • Awareness of data governance principles and data quality rules.
  • Knowledge of techniques for optimizing database performance.
  • Understanding of data security principles and best practices.
