The Database Architect (DBA) at Augusta University plays a crucial role in the design, development, and maintenance of the enterprise technical platform infrastructure. Under general direction, the DBA is responsible for instructing, directing, and checking the work of other database systems and personnel. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to work independently while also mentoring other DBA team members. The primary function of the Database Architect is to provide a high-quality, secure, and resilient platform that supports the business and research needs of Augusta University. As a subject matter expert, the Database Architect will define technical specifications and planning for both new and existing enterprise systems. This role involves leading and coordinating the efforts of database team members and other technical services staff to ensure that the technical roadmap aligns with the organization's needs. The DBA will also be responsible for creating specifications, obtaining quotes, and defining cost-effective procurement of technical components for projects to meet delivery timelines. A key focus of this position is to help ensure the success of the Systems team in achieving its strategic and financial goals, which correlate to the mission of Augusta University. The Database Architect will engage in various database administration activities, including installing and configuring new instances of the RDBMS, restoring databases from backups, designing maintenance scripts, and monitoring and tuning performance. Additionally, the DBA will work closely with the Manager of Research Technology to create strategic planning for the group as it relates to enterprise goals and priorities, while also ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures to maintain system and data integrity.
