About the position

The Database Developer is responsible for the overall design and development of databases that underlie the business applications at Simon Property Group. This role primarily focuses on business intelligence applications but also encompasses other business-critical applications. The Database Developer will collaborate closely with the DBA team, application developers, business analysts, and end users to understand their needs and build effective database solutions. This includes designing and implementing databases, as well as assisting in performance tuning and troubleshooting issues related to the databases. In this position, the successful candidate will work with various teams to recommend appropriate solutions based on the needs identified. Responsibilities include designing and implementing databases, which involves creating tables, views, stored procedures, and other database objects. The Database Developer will also troubleshoot data and performance issues, serving as a liaison between the application team and the DBA support team. Compliance with corporate change management processes is essential, and the role may also involve assisting with data integration work, ETL processes, and report development as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in relational database development and experience in a Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse environment. They will be expected to communicate effectively and possess a working knowledge of various Software Development Lifecycles, including waterfall, iterative, and agile methodologies. Familiarity with modern database and storage technologies, as well as experience with data modeling and reporting tools, will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the DBA team, application developers, business analysts, and end users to understand needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Designs and implements databases including tables, views, stored procedures, and other database objects.
  • Troubleshoots issues with data and/or performance and recommends solutions.
  • Serves as liaison between the application team and the DBA support team.
  • Complies with corporate change management processes.
  • Assists with data integration work.
  • At times, assists with ETL and/or report development.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years demonstrated relational database development experience (i.e., tables, views, stored procedures, queries, etc.).
  • 5-7 years demonstrated experience designing/modeling relational and analytical databases.
  • 5-7 years demonstrated experience designing and developing databases in a Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse environment.
  • 5-7 years designing and developing MS SQL Server databases.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communications.
  • Working knowledge of Software Development Lifecycles (waterfall, iterative, agile, etc.).
  • Experience with Erwin Data Modeling software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with modern database/storage technologies (Azure, Data Lake, NoSQL, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience modeling and/or writing reports in PowerBI is a plus.
  • Experience with ETL technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with IBM DB2 is a plus.
