About the position

The Database (DbOps) Manager will lead the DbOps team in prioritizing tasks, guiding technical approaches, and overseeing hiring and supervision. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, enhancing database architecture and management, implementing data security policies, and ensuring the scalability and performance of database structures. The manager will also be responsible for capacity planning and reporting on objectives and progress to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the DbOps Team in prioritization of the backlog and technical approach.
  • Collaborate and partner with various stakeholders inside of Brightly.
  • Develop and enhance approach toward databases architecture, management, monitoring, and automation with a DevOps mindset.
  • Enhance the effectiveness of database tools and services.
  • Develop and implement data security, retention, and integrity policies and procedures.
  • Implement, improve, and track DB SLAs, including RPO and RTO.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes for efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Enhance the scalability and performance of existing database structures.
  • Guide CD/CI process and approaches aimed at updating data and databases.
  • Keep up with the latest technology trends, especially cloud.
  • Report out objectives, work you're doing, and status to stakeholders and the organization.
  • Perform capacity planning including future storage requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in computer science or related discipline; or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 - 10 years of experience supporting SQL Server in an enterprise environment.
  • 2 - 3 years of managing a team.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills including troubleshooting.
  • Experience with AWS (Azure a plus).
  • Strong SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL skills.
  • Experience with SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, Couchbase, RedShift.
  • Familiarity with SentryOne, Datadog, CloudWatch.
  • Experience with Jenkins, DACPACs, Redgate tools.
  • Knowledge of Bitbucket, GitHub, SVN.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, Python (C# or GO a plus).
  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, SAM.

Nice-to-haves

  • Multi-Cloud experience.
  • Experience with SQL Clustering and Availability Groups and database replication.
  • Experience with monitoring and provisioning SQL Server in AWS/Azure.
  • Willingness to be on 24x7 on-call rotation and respond to production outages.
  • Ability to automate redundant tasks using scripts, jobs, and other technologies.
  • Strong communication, partnership, teamwork and influencing skills.
  • Experience with source control, with a database engineering background.
  • Advanced analytical organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
