About the position

The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Database Developer to join Li-San Wang's lab and the Penn Neurodegeneration Genomics Center. This role is pivotal in contributing to neurodegeneration bioinformatics research. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing databases that manage individual- and project-level phenotypes and genotypes, consents, and the status of analysis progress, along with related file management. Additionally, the developer will contribute to the development of NIAGADS cloudmons and maintain the NIAGADS genomics database, which serves as a searchable annotation resource. The position also involves contributing to the development and testing of genomics research software and resources at Wang Lab. The Database Developer will work closely with researchers to ensure that the databases are effectively designed and implemented to meet the needs of ongoing research projects. This includes collaborating with team members to identify requirements, develop new features, and maintain existing systems. The role requires a strong understanding of relational databases, SQL programming, and familiarity with various programming languages and tools relevant to bioinformatics and genomics research. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and SQL programming.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as R, Python, SAS, C/C++, and web development.
