About the position

As a Database Developer within AECOM TechWorks, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clients by leveraging data analytics to extract knowledge and insights from various data forms. This position involves working with large and diverse datasets, conducting statistical analyses, and generating concise reports that provide actionable recommendations for future project deliverables. You will collaborate with a dynamic team using tools such as Microsoft Teams, JIRA, and Confluence to ensure effective communication and project management. The role can be performed fully remotely or in a hybrid model from any AECOM office, with the home office located in Germantown, MD. Your responsibilities will include assimilating, validating, and analyzing vast quantities of data to transform them into meaningful insights. You will assist project teams in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to automate processes and visualize data effectively. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date data processes and re-architecting them as necessary to align with modern systems and trends. Developing and preparing reports and presentations will also be a key part of your role, ensuring that you communicate findings clearly to both internal and external clients. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced team environment, collaborating with data analysts, developers, testers, managers, and clients to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assimilate, validate, analyze, and summarize vast quantities of data into information and insights
  • Assist project teams with writing complex queries, stored procedures and views to automate processes and visualize data
  • Maintain up-to-date data processes and re-architect as needed based on more advanced and modernized systems/trends
  • Develop, update, implement and maintain procedures
  • Develop and prepare reports and relevant presentations
  • Collaborate with other data analysts, developers, testers, managers, and clients (internal and external)

Requirements

  • BA/BS + two years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education (AA/AS + four years of experience or HS/GED + 6 years of experience)
  • Professional experience developing and utilizing relational databases including SQL Server and MySQL
  • Experience writing SQL queries, views, and stored procedures
  • Professional experience and coding knowledge using Python
  • Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional experience developing data models using standard diagramming techniques
  • Professional experience with open-source analysis tools, big data, and business intelligence technologies
  • Professional experience and knowledge of open-source spatial data tools including PostgreSQL
