About the position

The Database Developer at the University of Oklahoma is responsible for the design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of databases. This role involves gathering data requirements, creating management systems for efficient access to information, and ensuring database security against cyber threats. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to meet the functional needs of the databases.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers all information regarding the intended functions of each database.
  • Receives requests pertaining to the layout, appearance, and special features of each database.
  • Designs and creates appropriate frameworks for databases.
  • Configures databases to withstand cyber attacks and prevent data loss.
  • Reviews each development to detect and amend coding and typographical errors and bugs.
  • Formulates data dictionaries that align with task specifications.
  • Creates technical documents outlining the purpose, capacity, and guidelines for each database.
  • Provides practical guidance on the use and migration of each database.
  • Services and updates databases as required.
  • Performs various duties as needed to fulfill the function of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 36 months experience working as a Database Developer or with databases.
  • Alternatively, 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 84 months related experience.
  • Demonstrable experience as a Database Developer.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, C++, or Java, with a preference for more than one programming language.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to craft detailed technical manuals.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions.
  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty, and staff.
