About the position

The Database Developer at Sutton Bank is responsible for developing and maintaining the database structure that supports the bank's operations. This role involves designing and documenting database schemas, writing and debugging stored procedures, and optimizing query performance to ensure secure access to customer and financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops banking solutions for data and reporting needs.
  • Works with the Manager of Data Analytics and Operations (DAO) to ensure database alignment with data stakeholders' needs.
  • Collaborates on the design of database architecture and configures databases to meet functional requirements.
  • Assists in test environment data requirements setup and maintenance, testing, and validation.
  • Designs new data pipelines for onboarding additional payment processors and third-party data sources.
  • Investigates and resolves application and data integrity issues with Manager DAO.
  • Builds high-quality processes adhering to the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Utilizes source control for migration of code changes through SDLC.
  • Understands processes provided on the Sutton Data Lake.
  • Creates database tables, views, and stored procedures.
  • Performs data modeling to design efficient database systems.
  • Updates and creates database objects such as tables, views, stored procedures, and security credentials.
  • Establishes backup, recovery, and disaster prevention procedures for data continuity.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains database security.
  • Develops and executes SQL scripts to manage and manipulate data.
  • Monitors and optimizes database performance.
  • Installs and configures Snowflake cloud computing technologies.
  • Creates documentation to ensure databases adhere to industry standards.
  • Produces monthly and quarterly reports from database query results.
  • Updates and maintains the Sutton Bank Data Lineage tool.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related discipline.
  • Five years of experience in the card payment industry in a database role.
  • Experience with data visualization and big data analytics tools such as Tableau, Hive, and Power BI.
  • Experience with developing complex ETL in Data Processing environments.
  • Knowledge of multiple database technologies such as MySQL, SQL Server, and cloud services like AWS and Snowflake.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational database platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong knowledge of the Payments Industry and/or card processing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the financial services industry.
  • Ability to learn new languages and technologies.
