About the position

The Database Developer role at Northwest Hardwoods focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing database solutions to support various business applications and data-driven decisions. The position involves managing complex data integrations and ETL processes, ensuring data integrity and security, and collaborating with stakeholders to meet reporting and analytics needs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement database solutions to support business applications, reporting needs, and data analytics.
  • Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions to extract, transform, and load data across multiple databases and platforms.
  • Develop and optimize ETL processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading into data warehouses or data lakes.
  • Create and maintain data models, schemas, and database structures, ensuring efficient data flow and organization.
  • Use Azure DevOps to manage code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and version control for database code deployments.
  • Collaborate with analysts and other stakeholders to design efficient data pipelines that support reporting and analytics needs.
  • Administer, maintain, and implement policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of NWH databases.
  • Administer access controls, permissions, and privileges of data assets.
  • Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans.
  • Conduct regular system audits to ensure compliance with established security standards and policies.
  • Optimize database performance by tuning queries, indexes, and database structures for efficient data retrieval.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database performance, capacity, and security issues as needed.
  • Implement best practices for data management, security, and integrity, including data partitioning, indexing, and backup strategies.
  • Participate actively in Scrum meetings, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, to ensure agile delivery of database solutions.
  • Develop and manage SQL-based reports and data integration scripts, ensuring data consistency and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with analysts to enable self-service reporting, data visualization, and dashboard solutions using tools like Power BI.
  • Work closely with IT and business teams to understand data needs and design effective database solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, with experience designing complex queries, stored procedures, and data pipelines.
  • Experience in data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration across multiple systems.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, data lakes, and data pipeline management.
  • Proficiency in Power BI or similar reporting tools for data presentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud databases and services (e.g., AWS).
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Database Developer or SQL Database certification.
  • Familiarity with additional programming or scripting languages (e.g., C#, Powershell, DAX, etc…) and APIs.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server environments.
