About the position

We are seeking a Technical Postgres Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive experience in database migration, specifically from Oracle to PostgreSQL. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of schema and data migration processes for large databases transitioning to PostgreSQL. This role requires a strong expertise in PostgreSQL, including hands-on experience in rewriting SQL queries, migrating packages, and stored procedures, as well as optimizing these elements for performance. The candidate should be adept at identifying and recommending solutions for performance issues related to PostgreSQL queries and stored procedures. In addition to migration expertise, the candidate must have substantial experience in performance tuning, which includes creating and analyzing constraints and indexes, setting up and enabling VACUUM and AUTOVACUUM parameters, conducting explain plan analyses, and configuring server-side parameters. A solid understanding of Oracle PL/SQL databases is also essential, including familiarity with tables, views, procedures, functions, packages, indexes, triggers, and materialized views. While not mandatory, a basic understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Cloud SQL will be considered a plus. The candidate should be eager to learn new concepts and functionalities and demonstrate the ability to resolve issues independently.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Technical Postgres SME for database migration projects.
• Lead the migration of databases from Oracle to PostgreSQL, ensuring schema and data integrity.
• Rewrite SQL queries and optimize stored procedures for performance in PostgreSQL.
• Identify and recommend solutions for performance issues in PostgreSQL queries and stored procedures.
• Conduct performance tuning activities, including constraints and indexes creation and analysis.
• Set up and enable VACUUM and AUTOVACUUM parameters, and perform explain plan analysis.
• Monitor bloating and optimize server-side parameters for PostgreSQL databases.
• Maintain a good understanding of Oracle PL/SQL databases and their components.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in PostgreSQL database management and migration from Oracle.
• Strong expertise in SQL query rewriting and optimization.
• Hands-on experience with migrating packages and stored procedures.
• Proficient in performance tuning techniques for PostgreSQL databases.
• Good understanding of Oracle PL/SQL databases, including tables, views, and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Cloud SQL is a plus.
• Ability to learn new concepts and resolve issues independently.
