About the position

The Oracle Database Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team that provides architecture guidance, drives automation efforts, and manages core toolsets to maximize the value of database technology investments. This role involves mentoring engineers, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting standardization while supporting multiple projects. The manager will also provide consultative technical leadership across the organization, ensuring effective communication and collaboration between technical and business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers to achieve results.
  • Plan and coordinate the evaluation and implementation of new products and improvements to current systems.
  • Establish technology standards and identify appropriate uses for database features.
  • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to advise upper management.
  • Facilitate collaboration between technical and business-focused teams.
  • Develop methods for integrating different products to work together effectively.
  • Compile and recommend needs for the annual budgeting process in database technologies.
  • Determine staffing and skills requirements and perform succession planning.
  • Drive change in alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Provide technical management for multiple project initiatives.
  • Manage technology life-cycle projects including evaluation, selection, implementation, and retirement.
  • Provide technical specifications for application enhancements and participate in customizations.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products and tools.
  • Manage and prioritize daily support and project work.
  • Perform quality assurance and design review functions for all projects.
  • Communicate project status, issues, and deliverables to stakeholders.
  • Establish optimum values for database parameters and configurations.
  • Work with vendor technical support to resolve technical issues.
  • Conduct staffing, performance, and resource management activities.
  • Create and maintain development plans for team members.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 12 years of experience in Information Technology or Business.
  • 10+ years of IT experience.
  • 4+ years of managing and leading a team of direct reports.
  • Ability to apply advanced database administration and management techniques.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with database technologies, primarily Oracle.
  • Experience implementing and operationalizing DevOps processes.
  • 2+ years of experience creating automation for process improvements.
  • Extensive experience with Linux platform.
  • Experience working with customers to build business requirements.
  • Experience in developing documentation and presentations for management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Oracle Database 19c and Autonomous Database.
  • Exposure to Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Experience with Privileged Access Management (PAM) tools.
  • Experience with Agile development and release practices.
  • Exposure to CMDB solutions and implementation strategies.
