About the position

The Oracle Database Engineering Manager leads a team that is responsible for providing architecture guidance, driving automation efforts, managing core toolsets, and maximizing the value of database technology investments through a product & platform delivery model. They build and mentor a team of engineers that provide technical direction and deploy modern capabilities to enhance operational efficiency, promote standardization, and drive customer value. The manager will support multiple projects and have a technical hands-on lead as needed. They are responsible for developing team members and leading the team approach to automation and process improvements. An effective Database Engineering Manager will have a broad range of technical knowledge, with an emphasis on traditional relational and emerging database solutions. They will manage a team that supports multiple projects and divisions, as well as provide consultative technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making to project planning to governance and oversight. This position will work closely with others to grow their base of knowledge, but also share their knowledge with the business and IT teams via collaborative meetings, documentation, and formal presentations. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team responsible for architecture guidance and automation efforts.
  • Manage core toolsets and maximize the value of database technology investments.
  • Build and mentor a team of engineers to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support multiple projects and provide technical hands-on leadership as needed.
  • Develop team members and lead automation and process improvements.
  • Plan and coordinate the evaluation and implementation of new products and improvements to current systems.
  • Establish standards for technology and identify appropriate uses for database features.
  • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to advise upper management.
  • Serve as a bridge between technical and business-focused teams to facilitate understanding and collaboration.
  • Develop methods for integrating different products to work together effectively.
  • Compile and recommend needs for the annual budgeting process in database technologies.
  • Determine staffing and skills requirements and perform succession planning.
  • Drive change in alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Provide technical management for multiple project initiatives.
  • Manage technology life-cycle projects including evaluation, selection, implementation, and retirement.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products and tools.
  • Perform quality assurance and design review functions for all projects.
  • Provide regular communication on project status to stakeholders.
  • Establish optimum values for database parameters and configurations.
  • Work with vendor technical support to resolve technical issues.
  • Create and maintain development plans for team members, including training and career planning.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or at least 12 years of experience in Information Technology or Business.
  • 10+ years of IT experience.
  • 4+ years of managing and leading a team of direct reports.
  • Ability to understand and apply advanced database administration techniques.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with database technologies, primarily in the Oracle space.
  • Experience implementing and operationalizing DevOps processes.
  • 2+ years of experience creating automation for process improvements.
  • Extensive experience with Linux platform.
  • Experience working with customers to build business requirements.
  • Experience in developing documentation and presentations for management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Oracle Database 19c and Autonomous Database.
  • Exposure to Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  • Experience with Privileged Access Management (PAM) tools.
  • Experience with Agile development and release practices.
  • Exposure to CMDB solutions and implementation strategies.
