About the position

The Database Manager III/Sr at Ahtna Engineering Services will establish and manage a database solution for environmental data derived from various remediation projects. This role involves leading the organization, storage, querying, and reporting of data to support multiple environmental projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with data transformation, manipulation, validation, warehousing, analysis, and visualization, and will be detail-oriented and self-motivated. Collaboration with colleagues from various disciplines is essential, as is a commitment to staying updated on current technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, building, implementing, and maintaining various types of relational databases.
  • Working with data from different sources in various formats (e.g., XML, CSV, ASCII).
  • Developing client-specific databases, including ERPIMS and FUDSChem.
  • Querying, coding, and exporting data for analysis and reporting.
  • Analyzing information needs, data relationships, and storage requirements.
  • Ensuring quality data standards through QA/QC processes.
  • Learning new applications and integrating them into the data management workflow.
  • Staying updated on hardware/software upgrades and troubleshooting issues.
  • Securing the database with policies and procedures for data entry and reporting.
  • Supporting staff in producing reports and queries.
  • Providing a positive working environment and building relationships with clients and team members.
  • Managing multiple tasks within scope, budget, and schedule expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative subject (engineering, science, computer science, statistics, math, or equivalent).
  • Experience with database structures, design, maintenance, and integrity.
  • Strong working knowledge of quantitative research methods.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and Access.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS and geological visualization tools.
  • Strong analytical skills in reviewing and assessing data.
  • Ability to pass background checks by Federal Agencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with relational database systems like Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD ERPIMS and/or FUDSChem.
  • Background in chemistry or experience with laboratory analytical databases.
  • Experience with geospatial data and GIS platforms.
  • Ability to implement Python onto ArcGIS.
  • Understanding of data analysis tools such as SQL, R, Python, VBA, Perl, or MATLAB.
  • Interest in GPS data and technology.
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.
