About the position

The Database Manager position at the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board involves serving as the database administrator and data engineer for the Research Unit. This role is crucial for supporting data system processes for the Private Career Schools program and the agency's career information site, Career Bridge. The successful candidate will design and implement databases, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with data governance standards, all while working in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an internal resource for related data management projects.
  • Serve as a technical resource for determining design and feasibility regarding migration into WaTech's enterprise data platform.
  • Respond to the data processing needs of the research unit to fulfill the mandates of the agency.
  • Address Research Team requests submitted through a centralized help desk for automated data pipelines and processing.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in data management for the agency, including application management and relevant compliance understanding.
  • Provide incident support through timely response and resolution.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for system maintenance of MFT site and configuring APIs.
  • Determine data schema in accordance with business needs.
  • Solidify sandbox, development, and production data environments.
  • Maintain raw, transformed, and aggregated data tables and data codebook.
  • Consult on optimized querying, responding to DB questions, and providing trainings.
  • Ensure compliance on standards, DSAs, data breach protocols, and audits.
  • Migration of data files from network drives to DB and technical support in change over to new visualization software.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of information technology experience in data warehouses or related fields.
  • Experience in building secure database environments and utilizing encryption technologies.
  • Three (3) years of experience with programming software such as Visual Studio, C-Sharp, ASP.NET, JavaScript/jQuery, T-SQL, SSIS.
  • Experience with data transformation and manipulation.
  • Experience in designing data pipeline specifications and data interchange technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of data governance principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant state and federal laws governing data privacy and security.
  • Understanding of the complexities within the workforce development system.
